The Brothers That Just Do Gutters— Brothers Gutters for short—traces its roots back to 1999, when Ken Parsons started his own gutter contractor company. Jump ahead more than 20 years, add the launch of franchising and a private equity acquisition, and Brothers Gutters makes its Fast & Serious debut this year at No. 10. Carefully considered and steady growth, “not spurts,” is at the core of the brand’s success, President Danny Horboychuk said. “It doesn’t do any of us any good if we throw up a bunch of numbers in 18 months and then it falls apart,” he said. Brothers Gutters finished 2023 with $86 million in systemwide sales and 111 units, a three-year increase of 232.9 percent and 177.5 percent, respectively. Underpinning expansion efforts for the Scottsdale, Arizona-based company are adjustments to franchisee training and support, including one-on-one coaching, and an emphasis on leadership development. Franchisee success is tied in part to their ability to hire and retain top-notch gutter installers, Horboychuk noted. “We have a proprietary skills ladder that lays out the career path for installers,” he said. “In home services, there’s a lot of turnover, but we don’t see that as much because we can show that career path.” Top-performing franchisees, he continued, understand the importance of following the system. “Start there. Don’t come out of the gate trying to reinvent the wheel or be a lone wolf.” Acquired in late 2023 by Evive Brands, a portfolio company of The Riverside Company, Brothers Gutters is next looking at the implementation of a new operating system and customer relationship management platform. Joining Evive, Horboychuk said, “fast-forwarded our progress.”
